I am an archaeologist who has excavated Aztec provincial houses in Mexico to reconstruct the political economy of ancient life. I now work primarily on comparative and transdisciplinary approaches to ancient cities. Does research on early cities have anything to teach us about fundamental urban processes such as resilience, adaptation, and change? I'd like to know. I view my discipline, archaeology, as a Comparative Historical Social Science.
